How to Curl Your Hair: Style Class

Lindsey Nelson explains how to curl your hair

Curling hair doesn't have to be hard or frustrating. It is actually one of my favorite things in the universe of hair/beauty.

I love how the curl pattern can show all the variations of colors and can create volume where there was none before.

To achieve a great curl, first, I section off the hair, clipping the top section away from the bottom section.

Second, I rotate the iron or wand away from your face and then alternate directions in the back.

Pro Tip: If you want more of a wavy look, leave the ends of the hair straight. Don't curl them.

I like to start in the back of my head and then end in the front, but you can do whatever feels more comfortable for you.

Once all the curls are done, I allow the hair to cool for 5 minutes so the curls set.

This will make the curls hold their shape longer.

Next, wait for it... I brush the hair out!

It seems like you did all that work just to brush it all out, but trust me.

This will make the hair look smooth and not so "prom-like."

Finally, I use a texture spray to give the hair a little bit of separation and,

you guessed it, texture!

My favorite size curling iron is the Bio Ionic 1-inch. You can use my affiliate link to

purchase!

It seems to be the perfect size for most hair lengths.

I typically set the heat to 350-400 degrees, but I turn down the heat around the face where the hair is more fragile.
